The Too Short Season

November 2025

The end of the season of field-grown produce is now behind us with the onset of the first days of frost Upstate. Our too-short growing season is consistently defined by the beauty and bounty of our farm, and the sense of belonging that comes from being in community. Mornings start early, and the days are long, characterized by the constant rhythm of the field. I haven’t had time to write, or even stop, all season.

We had heavy and abundant rain in the beginning and a long, glorious (although somewhat worrisome) dry spell around harvest time. Spring brought fava beans, heirloom lettuces and spring onions, and summer sweet, vine ripened tomatoes. Late season brought an abundance of peppers and a wealth of heirloom winter squash and pumpkins.

All of it made our way to our customers via weekly home deliveries of our Grown and Gathered farm share boxes, each  a generous display of freshly harvested goodness. We drove all over Columbia County delivering boxes each Friday late into the afternoon as the evening light settled over the beautiful Hudson Valley landscape. It was pure joy (with a touch of exhaustion for good measure). Thank you to everyone whose support and gratitude carried us through the summer.
